Banning of NDTV is throwback to emergency days, says press bodies of Arunachal
ITANAGAR, Nov 6: Expressing solidarity with NDTV India, the press fraternity of Arunachal Pradesh strongly condemns the central government's order that the channel be taken off air for a day. The Centre had decided to ban the channel for a day on November 9 for what it called a breach of national security laws relating to its coverage of the Pathankot terror attacks earlier this year.
While we believe that the country's security is of the utmost importance, the Arunachal Press Club (APC), Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and Arunachal Electronic Media Association (AEMA) are of the opinion that the information and broadcasting ministry's decision is a violation of press freedom and sets a dangerous precedent. Although channels have been banned earlier for their questionable content, this is the first time that a news channel is being ordered to be taken off air for a day.
The Centre could have opted for other means if it wanted to but this decision is a throwback to the days of the Emergency. To put things into perspective, imagine if the state government ordered a newspaper to shut down its office for a day. We stand with our colleagues at NDTV India and agree with the Editors Guild of India's call for an immediate recall of the ban order, stated press bodies of Arunachal.
After NDTV India, the government has also ordered that an Assam-based news channel be taken off air for a day, following the recommendations of a high- level panel which felt it had "violated" guidelines on more than one occasion, PTI reports from New Delhi.
An I&B Ministry order dated November 2, has sought that the channel 'News Time Assam,' be taken off air on November 9.
One of the allegations against the channel is that it revealed the identity of a minor who had been brutally tortured while working as a domestic help. Observing that the visuals telecast by the channel appeared to compromise the privacy and dignity of the child, while also exposing him to harm and stigma, a showcause notice was issued to the channel in October 2013.
Having listened to the channel's version, the Inter Ministerial Committee which looked into the matter felt that the channel may be taken off air for a day. According to the order, the matter was reconsidered as some other channels had also shown similar content for which they had been issued warnings, but the IMC looked at all the circumstances and again recommended taking it off air for a day.
The same order also lists two other cases of alleged violations by the channel which were considered by the IMC.
One of them related to telecast of gory visuals of bodies for which a recommendation was made to take off the channel for a day.
In another case the channel telecast a programme which appeared defamatory towards women and was in bad taste. The IMC had asked the channel to run an apology scroll but since it did not comply, in this regard, taking it off air for a day was recommended.

BOMDILA, Nov 06: The cultural extravaganza and colorful ramp walk showcasing the diverse cultures of state marked the closing ceremony of the three-day long Bomdila Buddha Mahotsava on Sunday.
The ramp walk presented by the head of departments of West Kameng district representing different tribes including Nyishi, Adi, Galo, Apatani, Monpa invoking a Pan-Arunachal identity message left the large number of gathering enthralled.
The walk was led by Parliamentary Secretaries Kumsi Sidisow and Phurpa Tsering.
Attending the closing ceremony of three-days diverse culture festival, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Col. Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore said that Arunachal is in the heart of India. MoS I&B further hailed the diverse cultures and tradition of indigenous tribes of the district and appealed the people to preserve it.
"The distance between Delhi and Arunachal Pradesh has been shortened, as Arunachal and Northeast are in heart of Delhi" said former Olympic medalist adding that the more numbers of ministers from the center are visiting the state.
On Swachh Bharat Mission, Rathore added that West Kameng and Arunachal Pradesh should be the cleanest place in India."
Assuring to establish FM Radio station at Bomdila, he opined that Bomdila could become the fashion capital of India.
Welcoming the dignitaries at festival, Chief Minister Pema Khandu assured to make the festival an annual calendar event following the request of local representative. The CM further asserted that his government is stable and have full support of majority MLAs. Khandu further informed his government is coming up with a mechanism for unemployed youths to create self- employment.
Union of Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju has assured the people to initiate with concern ministry at Centre for immediate restoration and maintenance of Bomdila road. Rijiju also observed that Buddha Mahotsava should be an annual event. It provides a platform to six tribes of the district to come together and showcase their respective culture, he observed.
Later, Singer Adnan Sami enthralled the audience with his Bollywood popular number. Adding more colour on valedictory function, fashion show designed by Yana Ngoba captivated the frenzy crowd.
Earlier, the prizes to the winners of games and sports was given away by Col Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Chief Minister Pema Khandu.
CM Pema Khandu accompanied by Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Kiren Rijiju and Adnan Sami also visited the traditional food stalls of Khampti, Galo, Aka, Sajolang, Sartang, Bugun, Nyishi, Apatani, Monpa and Shertukpen tribes erected on the occasion of 3rd Buddha Mahotsava.
Mechukha ready for adventure@mechukha
ITANAGAR, Oct 27: Picturesque Mechukha is all set for the 5th edition of three days adventure@mechukha which starts on Nov 7.
This year Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju and singer Adnan Sami will join the celebrations. They will be accompanied by Arunachal East Lok Sabha MP, Ninong Ering.
Spearheaded by Festival Chair Pasang Dorjee Sona, who is also the Parliamentary secretary, Tourism, the three-day festival is held annually from November 7 to 9 and is organized jointly by the Government of India's Ministry of Tourism and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh's Department of Tourism along with event partners - the West Siang District Administration, the Mechukha sub-division Administration and the Centre for Cultural Research & Documentation (CCRD), Naharlagun.
Invoking the elements, the 2016 edition onwards the adventure activities have been tagged as Air (Microlight Aviation, PPG, Parasailing, Para-motoring), Water (Rafting, Water Zorbing, River Crossing, Angling), Earth (Quad Biking, Zorbing, Rappelling, Horse Riding) and Fire (Trap Shooting, Air Rifle, Air Pistol, Archery).
There are side events lined up for the three-day festivities including a Film Festival, karaoke arena apart from food stalls with local delicacies while there is a cultural line up for evening performances.
This year's event will also host the curtain raiser for the North East India Fashion Week 2017 (NEIFW 2017), a platform for designers, weavers and artisans from the region to showcase the unique ethnic designs and handicrafts that the indigenous traditions have to offer. NEIFW is promoted by Yana Ngoba Chakpu, one of Arunachal's leading designers whose work was shown at last year's London Fashion Week.
APSCW’s legal awareness prog at Tawang concludes
ITANAGAR, Nov 6: The two-days Legal Awareness Programme on "Polygamy and Compulsory Registration of Marriage, Domestic Violence, Child Labour, Sexual Harassment at Workplace and Free Legal Aid, Maternity Benefit Act 1961, Livelihood and Women Related Law" concluded successfully at Zomkhang Hall, Tawang on Sunday.
The National Commission for Women sponsored programme was organised by the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW), Itanagar in collaboration with Women Welfare Association, Tawang.
Addressing the second day of the programme on Sunday, DLSA Advocate Pema Tsewang informed about the free legal aid. He informed that most of the cases of Tawang have been disposed off in Lok Adalat.
On Sexual Harassment at Work Place, he shared that any sexual harassment to women at work place is termed as violation of fundamental rights of a woman. Speaking on the various categories of sexual harassments, he said, such cased should be reported to Police Station and district administration.
While informing about the Maternity Benefit, Act 1961, Assistant Professor Godak Bikash, Himalayan University, Itanagar informed that it is regulated for working women. The Act applies where there are 10 or more employees are working. He also shared the various categories of benefit for pregnant women. He further informed that a pregnant woman can file a complaint against her employer at Police Station, if she has been terminated from her job during her pregnancy period.
APSCW Chairperson Mitali Tingkhatra spoke on fundamental rights and other laws related to women. She also briefly spoke on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act, 2005 and called for cooperation to the victims of domestic violence.
The programme was attended by more than 60 persons including government officials, Women Welfare Association (WWA) team and APSCW team.
Later in the evening, the APSCW team visited Tawang Police Station along with WWA team. During the interaction with OC Krishna Mohan Das, he informed the Commission that there is shortage of men power. There are only three lady constables and no lady Sub Inspector is here to handle the women related cases and also there is no separate cell for women.
The Commission urged the state government to post required staffs. The teams also visited Home for Elders and Children, Mahabodhi Center Tawang at Teli Village, Tawang and interacted with the elders and children.
Inculcate indigenous values in younger generation: Mein
TEZU, Nov 06: Deputy Chief Minister emphasized the need for inculcating indigenous values and ethos amongst the younger generation.
"Let us inculcate the indigenous values and ethos amongst the younger generation and make them aware of our ancient pristine and precious knowledge to secure the identity and growth of indigenous faith", said Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein while addressing at the closing ceremony of 5th State Level Indigenous Youth Festival here on Sunday.
Mein, who cut short his Thailand visit to attend the festival, praised the IFCSAP for preservation, promotion and patronizing the Indigenous faith and culture of Arunachal Pradesh through a platform like, Indigenous Youth Festival.
In an era of modernization and globalisation, it is the responsibility of youths to carry the baton of rich traditional and cultural legacy which we have inherited from our forefathers, he said.
Acknowledging the presence of Yvette Claire Rosser, a research Scholar from USA in the festival, Chowna praised the attribution of foreign scholars in preserving the traditions and culture of tribal people in written form.
He further requested her to help preserve the faith and culture of Indigenous people in written or documentary form.
Chowna agreed to grant necessary fund for the construction of boundary wall of Government Higher Secondary School Tezu and also assured to address the passing of Priests Sermon Bill in their next cabinet meeting.
MLA Dr Mohesh Chai urged the youths to take up the responsibility to protect and preserve our age-old indigenous values and culture.
He also appealed them to maintain self discipline and stay away from substance abuses.
Former minister Talo Mugli speaking on the occasion has requested to the State Government to give due importance to the Indigenous Youth Festival.
Secretary General IFCSAP Bai Taba, thanked the Lohit District Commissioner Danish Ashraf and SP Isaac Pertin for their support and cooperation in smooth conduct of the festival.
He also placed a two-point memorandum to the Deputy Chief Minister, which included allocation of compulsory fund for celebration of Indigenous Day on 1st December every year and passing of the Priests Sermon bill.
Earlier, the Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein inaugurated the VIP Suite with Conference Hall at Tezu Circuit House.
Later, the DCM also attended the Chhath Puja organized by Namsai Chhath Puja Committee at the bank of Noa Dihing, Namsai. It is an important Hindu Vedic festival, where devotees worship Sun god on this day along with his younger wife fondly called as Chhathi Maiya by the believers. The people rigorously fast and abstain from even drinking water, take holy baths and offer prayers to the rising and setting sun on these days.
The festival was also attended by Zonal Organising Secretary RSS of North East zone Ulhas Kulkarni, former IFCSAP president YD Thongchi, DC Danish Ashraf, SP Isaac Pertin, Chairman Organising Committee Nakul Chai, IFCSAP president Dr Ligu Tacho and Advisor IFCSAP Nabam Atum.
APYC resolves to strengthen its tentacles
ITANAGAR, Nov 6: The Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) concluded its two-day state executive meeting at Tawang on Sunday. The meeting which started on Saturday was attended among others by Indrani Mishra, general secretary of Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and In-charge Arunachal.
Jikke Tako, president of state Youth Congress, in his presidential address, asked the office bearers of APYC, DYC and AYC to maintain party discipline, loyalty and commitment which will bear trained leadership and true party leader in future.
Some resolutions were adopted to strengthen the Youth Congress in the state, districts and assembly constituency levels. The formation and constitution of District Youth Congress (DYC) is almost completed in all the districts. Further DYC has been authorized to constitute Assembly Youth Congress (AYC) in all assembly constituencies by December 2016. The resolution was also taken to terminate or expel any office bearer of Youth Congress who indulges in anti-party activity during local body elections and state Assembly elections, informed APYC.
Further Youth Congress added that monitoring committee in every district will be constituted from the DYCs to monitor the developmental activities in the district and Assembly constituencies. The Youth Congress also pledged to work for the promotion of communal harmony and peaceful co-existence amongst the people of the state in the spirit of Pan-Arunachal.
The 13th Itanagar Assembly Youth Congress was upgraded to City Youth Congress (CYC) and the APYC will launch annual award every year to acknowledge its office bearers for their outstanding service to the Youth Congress and the Congress party.
As part of its two days program, the team of Youth Congress visited the Tawang Monastery and donated dustbins. The Youth Congress team also visited cremation ground of Lt Dorjee Khandu, the former Congress chief minister and paid floral tribute and prayed for eternal peace of departed soul.
Later the APYC team visited border outpost Bumla and interacted with the army personnel who are tirelessly guarding the nation at the border. Meanwhile, the state Youth Congress decried and strongly condemned the illegal detention of Rahul Gandhi for supporting the victim of OROP.
Chabahar: Gateway to North- South Corridor

India has carved a new geopolitical beginning in the Persian Gulf region putting Chabahar in the grand canvas of India's geo-economic calculus in the emerging Asian architecture. She has kept her American partnership vibrant while opening a multi format political and economic engagement with China as well. However, China's string of pearls and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) posed real time challenges to India's strategic interests in the region. The term string of pearls was coined by the Booz Alllen Consultants of USA in 2003 which illustrated Chinese commercial and naval grip in the Indian Ocean to create nodes of influence in the region. It was also interpreted as a Chinese geopolitical strategy to control the critical sea lines of communication from the Strait of Malacca lying between Peninsular Malaysia and the Sumatra of Indonesia in the East to the strait of Hormuz between the Gulf of Oman and Persian Gulf and the Strait of Mandeb between Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula and Eritrea in the Horn of Africa.
India's Maritime Goodwill Curve
India philosophically positions herself towards a Maritime Commons orientation and prioritizes an independent foreign policy of goodwill without any overt confrontation with China. However, Washington's Asia rebalancing and larger maritime positioning of other stake holders in the region drove New Delhi to look for reliable partners to withstand any push-pull eventuality. Chabahar port deal therefore like Port development prospect in Bangladesh is more strategic than mere access collaborations.
While China was poised to maneuver the string of pearls over eighteen port facilities stretching from Chongjin port in North Korea to Hambantota Port in Sri Lanka and Luanda Port in Angola, two very prominent developments in the regional maritime space in the last few months have been very disappointing to Beijing's interests. In February, Bangladesh scraped China proposed deep sea port- Payra and India seems to have wide options. In May this year, India successfully dislodged Chinese critical ambition in the Persian Gulf through Chabahar deal. Chabahar port is located in southeastern coast of Iran and is about 72 km away from Gwadar port of Pakistan. India signed the Chabahar port agreement with Iran which analysts call it as India's calibrated stroke against China's expanding regional network. Net implication, India possibly plucked away few pearls leaving the Chinese string scrambled. In the process, India carefully crafted a reliable Maritime Goodwill Curve in the region which is likely to be complimented with Japanese Capital and Washington's Asia Pivot equations. China's 'Nine Dashes' claim against all her maritime boundary countries are small countries but sources of tactical relevance to the Indian Maritime Goodwill Curve. It is pertinent to mention that 'Nine Dashes' is an imaginary U shaped line within a 1.4 million square mile area around South China Sea where China claims sovereignty leading to territorial dispute between China and other littoral States in the region. Philippine has taken the dispute to the UN Permanent Court of Arbitration, Hague. While China rubbished Hague verdict, Washington strongly refutes Chinese claim and a series of legal and historical evidences are traded for claim verification.
Chabahar: Engaging Iran
India's geographical setting is perceived in the broader canvass of Indian Ocean and its strategic depth in the West spreads through Gulf of Aden down to the Eastern Coast of Africa through the strait of Hormuj, and in the East it extends up to the South China Sea including the Strait of Malacca, and in the south it expands up to Antarctic. Conversely, Iranian geostrategic location can add to India's benefits in securing its national interest, and Indo-Iranian partnership therefore accords primacy to materialize their objectives in this extended strategic orbit.
India and Iran have signed a dozen agreements ranging from a contract to develop the strategic Chabahar port; pact to set up an aluminum plant and one on laying a railway line for India's connectivity to Afghanistan and Central Asia. Moreover, India, Iran and Afghanistan also signed a tripartite agreement on Chabahar port for a land-cum sea corridor for the transit of goods to Afghanistan and central Asian countries circumventing Pakistan as well.
It is relevant to mention here that Afghanistan is the land -connect to Central, South and West Asia and it could be a major transit point for trade and energy between India and Iran. Further, the 217 kilometers Zaranj -Delaram highway built up by India in 2009 is linked with the 'Garland highway' of Afghanistan connecting Zaranaj with Kabul, Kandahar, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif and kunduz. Thus, Indian and Iranian goods from the Chabahar port across the land corridor of Iran would traverse Zaranj and other cities of Afghanistan through these highways. Also, goods from Afghanistan would disembark at the Chabahar port through the land corridor of Iran. So, India and Iran using the land route of Afghanistan can transport their goods to the central Asian countries.
Chabahar: Springboard to INSTC
Chabahar is the gateway to the International North-South Transport (INSTC) Corridor project which in terms of time and space affords better opportunities to India to have access with Europe and Russia. Experts working in this field opine that the corridor links India and Iran with Europe and Russia involving fourfold transportation process. These are: (a)in the first stage, there would be trans-shipment of goods from the ports in India to the ports of Bandarabbas and Chabahar in Iran; (b) in the second stage, there would be transit of goods by the Iranian Railways to the ports of Bandar Anjali and Bandar Amirabad on the shores of Caspian Sea; (c) in the third stage, there would be passage of goods through the Caspian Sea to the port of Astrakhan in Russia and (d) in the fourth stage, there would be transit of goods through road and railways in Russia across Eastern Europe to Central and Western Europe.
Realistic introspection of the project seem beneficial to all the stake holders. One major advantage of North-South corridor is that it covers 6,245 kilometers, whereas the present maritime transport route across the Mediterranean Sea and the Red Sea is 16,129 kilometers. Undoubtedly, the North-South Corridor would reduce the cost of transportation by thirty percent and transit period by forty percent. Further, if this is connected with the ongoing South-East Asian transport Corridor, it would provide outlet to both India and Iran for better economic integration with other regional economic groupings such as European Union (EU) and Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). However, the realization of the project hinges upon the political will as well as interest of the international investors and transport bidders to undertake such mega project.
Chinese OBOR: Opportunity or Challenge
China is heavily pushing for One-Belt-One Road (OBOR) to land; road and sea connect Asia with Europe and Africa. Global economic recession since 2008 onwards has decimated global consumption significantly. China as the major manufacturer suddenly faced the challenge of loss of market for Chinese goods. Transport connectivity of the three continents with over 80 percent world population and over 50 percent of world GDP, shall open markets for China's huge excess industrial production and save China from domestic economic devastation. OBOR divided into six economic belts are a serious economic necessity for China. In 2015, China signed memorandums with seventeen OBOR countries for capacity cooperation to push OBOR strategically.
Indian leadership smells Chinese hegemony in the OBOR initiative. New Delhi is apprehensive that China is further trying to isolate India in South Asia through Chinese infrastructure diplomacy. Interestingly, China quite acutely needs India to join along OBOR. Simple calculation - China has the capital and technology to execute the massive infrastructure movement and India is the only country left in the world that is large enough to absorb, and therefore gainfully employ China's immense over production in its steel, cement, plastics and heavy engineering industries. However, India cannot fully rely upon Beijing in the OBOR partnership. Further, the recent Chinese effort in blocking India's entry into Nuclear Supply Group (NSG) membership has created a question mark on such infrastructural diplomacy.
So, New Delhi should keep all its options ready. India can go ahead with China on OBOR in any kind of regional and sub-regional cooperation. However, like Chinese CPEC & OBOR, India must expand International North-South Transit Corridor (INSTC) to bring together India, Iran and Russia to create multi-modal links (ship-rail-road) from India to Europe, via the Persian Gulf, Central Asia and Russia as a viable alternative to protect its national interest in the emerging Asian architecture in future.

Maintain cordial relation with teachers, Aboh urges students
SEPPA, Nov 6: The Parliamentary Secretary for Geology & Mining Tirong Aboh has appealed to the students of Government Model College Wessang (Seppa) to maintain cordial relation with teachers for smooth running of college and academic session.
Attending the 7th Annual College day celebration of college on Saturday Aboh further pleaded the students to respect each other irrespective of senior and junior, tribal and non tribal without discrimination. He advised the students to take advantages of college week celebration which will directly assist in personality development.
Appreciating college administration for successfully shifting to its permanent site, he also assured to discuss with the state government for immediate establishment of college auditorium. The students and college authority jointly submitted a memorandum in this regard.
Superintendent of Police (SP) in charge, B Norbu while assuring to keep the law & problem under control within the East Kameng district, appealed to the student community to follow the prevailing law and be the law abiding citizens for peaceful co-existence.
Later on Principal of the college Robin Hissang appreciating the students for taking active participation during the college week also advised them to concentrate on study and start the preparation for upcoming semester examination.
During the weeklong celebration three houses namely Donyi, Polo and Takar house had participated. Donyi house won championship and Polo house emerged as a discipline house.
Prize winners include Naya Beyong of 5th Semester (Best dancer), Nime Bacha 5th Sem (Best in literary competition), Best athletic Arjun Yangda (1st Sem) and Surej Techi adjudged as best singer.

Aapsa-Sahodaya Talent Search 2016 Concudes
Don Bosco and Good Shepherd emerge as champions and runner-up
ITANAGAR, Nov 6: Don Bosco School, Itanagar emerged champion of the Talent Search 2016 organized by All Arunachal Private Schools' Association in collaboration with Sahodaya, Itanagar.
Good Shephered Public School claimed the runner-up trophy.
In Group I, St. Francis Di Assisi, Damsite emerged as winners and BK Mission, Midpu claimed the runner-up trophy.
In Group II, Don Bosco School, Itanagar and Good Shepherd Public School claimed the winners' and runner-up trophies respectively.
In Group III, Don Bosco School, Itanagar and Donyi Polo Vidya Bhawan secured the first and second places respectively.
The three-day-long literary, cultural and sporting extravaganza (Talent Search) came to a close with distribution of prizes, medals and certificates to the winners.
Home Minister Kumar Wai, who attended valedictory function, appreciated the efforts of all the Principals and office bearers of AAPSA and Sahodaya for taking up such noble event and exhorted the students to reciprocate such initiatives through self-discipline and hard work.
The Minister while stressing the need to include co-curricular and extracurricular activities in education called upon the heads of all educational institutions to give importance to moral and value based education.
He lamented that most students are after degrees and not knowledge which is negative trend in education.
Addressing the thousand-strong gathering of students, Wai said: "Make your parents proud of yourself and in turn, be proud parents one day." He added that most successful persons had great parents, who were role-models.
Former Chief Minister Gegong Apang, while addressing the participants on the first day of Talent Search spoke of the need to build human resources and leaders, saying that "A state cannot progress in the absence of good and visionary leaders."
The former Chief Minister also appreciated the efforts of the Principal and all at Donyi Polo Vidya Bhawan for hosting Talent Search consecutively the second time.
Earlier, in his welcome address, SK Gupta, Treasurer AAPSA, who also is the Principal of Bunny's Fantasy School, underscored the fact that participation in Talent Search is increasing year by year and the participants are better prepared.
Levi E. Katy, Principal of the host school appreciated the hard work put in by Techi James, President AAPSA and the Executive Committee members which made Talent Search 2016 an event to remember.
EAC Capital Complex Bomjen and former AAPSA president Jenny Ribba also attended the valedictory function.

The ceremonial closing of Talent Search 2015 took place in an atmosphere of quiet solemnity in which the AAPSA flag was lowered and handed over to President AAPSA for safe-keeping till Talent Search 2017.
A large number of students and parents and well-wishers of AAPSA participated in the programme.
College day of Govt Women's college, Lekhi concludes
ITANAGAR, Nov 6: The 2nd college day celebration of the lone women's college of the state, Govt Women's College at Lekhi concluded on Saturday. Beginning on 3rd of this month, students were divided into three houses, in the names of women sportspersons Sakshi Malik, PV Sindhu and Dipa Karmakar.
Sakshi Maiik House bagged the best house and discipline house prizes. Yani Hakom, Shobana Gautam and Rakyir Potom were adjudged winners in literary, cultural and games and sports events respectively. Sangeeta Zirdo was crowned Miss College.
Parliamentary secretary home Pani Taram and councilor Itanagar Municipal Council, ward no 24 Lishi Yapu gave away prizes for the competitions during the valedictory function.
Earlier, addressing the students, parliamentary, secretary home, Pani Taram while reminding the students that their parents have high hopes and expectations from them, exhorted, "if you don't study well, then you are cheating your parents."
Councilor Lishi Yapu encouraged the students to realize their hidden potentials by telling story of an eagle's egg hatched by a chicken who considered itself a chicken.
On the inaugural day, Parliamentary Secretary Education Bamang Felix acknowledged that education has become a talking point for everyone and acquiring quality education should be the priority of a student.
"Getting certificates and degrees doesn't serve the purpose of education, if students don't learn anything." On women empowerment, giving examples of many women achievers he advised the students to be capable and start competing in various fields to empower themselves, instead of demanding for reservation.
Padmashree awardee Mamang Dai deliberating on the importance of education said, "education is a means towards great freedom." Urging students to remember their roots and culture, she exhorted them to examine themselves and have no fear to ask questions.
Nishu Konia is Mr Arunachal -2016
ITANAGAR, Nov 6: Junior Mr. India title holder, Nishu Konia once again won the 'Champion of Championship' title and was crowned Mr. Arunachal-2016 in the 4th Mr Arunachal Body Building Championship at Nikum Niya Hall Nirjuli on Saturday.
Nabam Abo and Mammon L. Goney won the first and second runners up titles respectively.
Konia of Capita Gym who won gold medal in the 75 kg plus category defeating Vijay Dhane of BB Gym.
Paklu Taipodia won the overall championship title in women's category while Hillang Yajik and Balo Yama won the first and second runners up titles respectively.
In Master category, Tirtha Tamang won the title while Balo Tadi and Mrinal Kanti Bose won the first and second runners up titles respectively.
Sports Authority of Arunachal chairman Gora Makik, who declared the championship open, assured that he would make all out effort to provide atleast a trainer to the Arunachal Bodybuilding Association and financial assistances for its further growth.
He hailed ABBA for its tireless effort for the promotion of body building in the state. He suggested the ABBA to apprise him on the needs of the Association in advance so that he can be able to manage in time.

KKBA selects 38 boxers for state championship
ITANAGAR, Nov 06: Kurung Kumey Boxing Association (KKBA) has announced 38-member team for the ensuing state level boxing championship to be held at Nyikum Niya ground, Nirjuli from November 9.
In an interaction session, Kolorinag MLA and Parliamentary Secretary (Home) Pani Taram advised the boxers to stay calm and cool and perform up to their potential to win fights. He also advised them to maintain strict discipline.
Taram, who also is the chief patron of KKBA, said that gold medal winners would be awarded Rs.20,000 each while silver and bronze medal winners would be given Rs.10,000 and Rs.5000 each.
KKBA advisor Yangfo Arun was also present during interaction and briefed the boxers about the upcoming championship.
The team would be led by KKBA president Nangram Roman and general secretary Biri Chattum.
Inter-Departmental T-20 Cricket tourney kicks off in Longding
ITANAGAR, Nov 06: The Inter-Departmental T-20 Cricket Tournament of Longding district with theme "Say no to Plastics" began on November 5.
Longding ADC M Loyi while speaking at the opening ceremony, emphasized of the need to organize such tournaments, where the government employees posted in the district bereft of any recreational facilities, to pass their holidays and leisure times. Such events also provide them the opportunity to interact with each other besides giving relaxation to their mental stress and strain, he said.
After the speech, the ADC started the match with a huge six.
In the opening match, batting first, medical XI were restricted for 113 runs in 20 overs, wherein Manish top-scored 29 runs.
Chasing a modest target, Khoda Jivon hammered unbeaten 81 off 32 balls to win the match for administration XI in just 12.2 overs with the loss of 2 wickets.
In another match, PWD XI were bowled out for 46 runs in 11overs. Coming into bat a quickfire by opener N Jamikham and Jasi Wangsu finished off the match in just 5 overs.
The other two matches between PHED XI and IRBN XI and RWD XI Vs SP XI of day 2 were abandoned due to incessant rain.
Absconding accused rearrested
KHONSA, Nov 6: Absconding accused Dungwang Phuksa (30) of Lower Kolam village, Lazu has been rearrested by Khonsa Police from Changlang.
Phuksa had escaped from legal custody on August 20 this year from District Hospital, Khonsa while on routine medical check-up.
Acting on a tip off about the presence of the absconding accused at Changlang, a team of Khonsa Police under the close supervision of Deputy SP Kardak Riba raided the house, where he was suspected to be hiding.
The accused was trying to escape police but he was overpowered by the team.
The accused has been brought back to Khonsa Police Station and kept in police custody for production before the Judicial Magistrate.

Wildlife carcasses seized
ITANAGAR, Nov 6: In a surprise inspection carried out by Hapoli forest division, carcasses of a barking deer, 5 number of wild fowl and a pigeon were seized by the patrolling team led by RFO Nyilang Tachang. DFO Koj Rinyo informed that subsequent upon filing of an FIR at Ziro Police station a case has been registered under sections of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and IPC and under investigation now.
She also directed all the RFOs of Hapoli Forest division to intensify patrolling and appealed to the District Administration, NGOs and civil societies to spread awareness and help to curb wildlife hunting.
10th foundation day of Kalung Danyi Piilo Neder Nelo celebrated
ITANAGAR, Nov 6: Neder Nelo is not a religion but a way of life practiced and passed on by our ancestors, said Kemo Lollen, Deputy Commissioner of Lower Subansiri. He said this while participating in the 10th foundation day celebration of Kalung Danyi Piilo Neder Nelo at Kalung on Saturday.
"I am fortunate that I had the privilege to inaugurate the Nelo in 2006 and I am impressed the way the Nelo has up kept its sanctity and inculcated a feeling of oneness amongst the people of the area," he added while assuring to provide a security fencing around the Neder Nelo. He exhorted all to upkeep tradition and culture.
Nani Takha, ZPM Reru Kalung while speaking on the occasion suggested for reviving the fish pond of the Nelo to enable the Nelo to be self sustainable. The celebration started with traditional prayers at the Neder Nelo and included cultural program and community feast.

ITANAGAR, Nov 6: Members of Kristi Kendra (KK), Naharlagun paid floral tribute to legendary singer Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his 5th death Anniversary in its office premises. About 70 members from Assamese community were gathered at Kristi Kendra, Naharlagun in this occasion.
Speaking to the gathering of about 70 KK members, general secretary, KK Music Academy, Naharlagun appreciated the decision of the state government to install a statue of the legendary singer at Bolung in Lower Dibang Valley district. He also talked about the contribution of the legendary singer to the North East region.
Songs by artist of Kristi Kendra Music Academy marked the occasion.
Free eye camp
ITANAGAR, Nov 06: The Arun Drishti Eye Care and Research Centre, Itanagar conducted free eye screening camp at PWD Inspection Bungalow, Palin on November 5.
The team of eye specialists and para-medical staff of Arun Drishti Eye Care and Research Centre treated 231 eye patients out of which 25 patients have been identified as operable cases and referred to Base Hospital of Arun Drishti at Itanagar for surgery.
150 refractive error patients were given spectacles on subsidised rates.
All the eye patients with infection were also given medicines free of cost.
The District Administration of Kra-Daadi headed by Habung Doni, DC, B. Sorum, ADC and their officers supervised the camp along with the officials of District Health and Family Welfare department.
Similar eye screening camp will be organized at Seijosa on November 16 in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Forests, Government of Arunachal Pradesh under Pakke Wildlife Division informed, the Secretary, Arun Drishti.

Let there be united response
Finally the people of India including government agencies are starting to recognize pollution as a major problem. Right now the air quality has worsened in North India especially in national capital. Situation is so bad that government has closed school and has advised citizens to stay indoors. Cases of respiratory problems have risen in the city with people rushing to medical store to buy air masks. Delhi has been struggling with pollution for years. Successive government promised to tackle pollution problem but situation has not changed much.
Infact the situation is going from bad to worse with each passing year. The alarming
level of pollution presently being witnessed in Delhi has deeply worried everyone.
Centre has convened an emergency meeting of Environment Ministers of Punjab, Haryana,
Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh tomorrow in this regard. Hopefully everyone will come
together to jointly fight the pollution menace. The meeting should not only look

Garbage disposal and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
Dear Editor,
Really, solid waste/ garbage picking up, transportation and dumping has become one of the prime public activity at Itanagar Capital Complex and across the country with lot of hue and cry, and a dedicated mission Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan being run in the country with huge involvement of human, financial and material resources.
It's been almost four decades walking on the planet, stayed at small private residence
as well as government quarters with confined spaces, but there is no memory of having
littered or decorated the roads, streets and other public places with any domestic
waste whether biodegradable or non-
If every individual in the town takes out precious 1 to 2 hours daily or few days a week to cultivate vegetable, fruit, spices and others even in a small kitchen garden, it shall fully consume up the biodegradable waste to keep town clean, yield home grown organic eatables for healthy diet and good health while augmenting food resources, keep people fit and healthy because of physical activity involved and what not, there are other multiple benefits like saving and tapping of human and material resources, increasing greenery that aids in rejuvenation of environment and minimising air pollution, water pollution, land pollution, unusual warming up of climate among others.
The only plastic waste can also be sent to recycling unit or else collected by the concerned agency for burning and disposal far away from settlement areas because, disposal of it through burning at home is risky and affects human health due to emission of toxic gases.
And the metal waste are obviously, costly items as scrap to be thrown on the streets.
Unemployment has become big problem in the country, and if the huge unemployed section can take up part time kitchen gardening or commercial truck farming, it has great potential to augment the sources of livelihood and income generation because, there is huge demand for organic vegetables, fruits, spices, herbs and other eatables every where, and the precious biodegradable domestic waste that this Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan has been wasting can be tapped for productive use there. People may not realize now, but, because of artificial chemical based farming and consequential health hazards, the demand for organic and varied food items and other eatables will keep on just growing in the World as long as there is human on Earth who has to eat to remain alive.
There is positivity to change mindset of the people worldwide by themselves, inculcate creative ideas and embark upon new activities for their larger advantage.
I earnestly request and advise the government to modify the ongoing Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan in which waste are collected from one place and dumped to another location creating another pollution without healthy disposal processes, and to introduce the concept of universal kitchen gardening all across the country so the precious waste can be rather tapped and utilised for multifarious benefits, and the mission may be renamed accordingly like Samriddhi Bharat Abhiyaan or Budhimaan Bharat Abhiyaan or Swast Bharat Abhiyaan.

There are many unanswered questions
Dear Editor,
The recent death of a pregnant woman on 21/10/2016 and her child who was about to be welcomed in the beautiful world because of the rudeness and negligence of doctors and due to lack of facilities in General Hospital Aalo leaves many unanswered questions. The call for an enquiry into the happening is a welcome step, however, the matter shouldn't be an eye wash in the name of enquiry. The truth, though, is clear as per the statement given by the MS in this daily that it was due to the shortage of anesthesiologist.
Our so called higher authorities are busy funding 10 Crs to each MLA as announced earlier and the big question is that what will be the use of fund when they can't save a woman in normal delivery case. It is better if all those funds could be diverted and directly deposited for creating health infrastructure for a good hospital in the state. Will the said fund be meaningfully utilized? Is not it a priority of the state to save human lives?
What is the use of creating post of uncountable Parliamentary secretaries where crores of money is being misused? What is the use of allocating uncountable numbers of official vehicles to the so called VIP where there is a huge shortage of emergency medical services? It is not a tough job for our so called VIP to deal with population of eleventh lacs.
Had the doctors and nurses given a try on that fateful night, the consequences would have been different. However, because of their arrogance, ego and rude attitude in every affair a mother and her child lost their lives.
In the midst of all such happening, supports of all public from every corner were really praiseworthy. Perhaps it was to be supported by all but only ZPC of Aalo West had given all out support in terms of morality, encouragement, transportation and moreover inspired the bereaved family displaying the real quality of leadership during the hopeless period.
